ARC Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire #1) by Larissa Ione

The Blurb …

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD
Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE
A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

My thoughts…

First, let me tell you that I’m a huge fan of Larissa Ione, I’ve read all her books from Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series, and I’ve loved each and every single one of them … ok with the exception of Shade’s and Limo’s books, those two are not my favs… but Wraith, Eidolon and Thanatos … swoon!!! Anyway, when I found out about the new VAMPIRE series I was super happy!!!

And when I got an ARC from NetGalley …

OK, so … long story short. The humans use vampires as slaves, crippling them taking out their fangs and using detonating collars to control them. The remaining free vampires are organized in clans. So, poor vampires have to fight to survive against the evil humans that run the companies that buy/sell vampire slaves, vampire hunters, and some sort of fanatics that just want to kill vampires for the fun of it.

Nicole Martin is the heiress to Daedalus, the main company specialized in vampire slavery and research (they use vampire blood to create vaccines and treatments to cure human diseases such as cancer). When she was little, she witnessed a massacre where her family was murdered by a riot of slave vampires, the same day, her vampire nanny was killed by her mate, a vampire named Riker. She grew up working at her family’s company while her half-brother Charles acted the role of CEO, until now that Nicole is old enough to be the new leader.

Some vampire clans are on each other throats, that’s the case between MoonBound and ShadowSpawn. Turns out, MoonBound borrowed a female vampire called Neriya from ShadowSpawn, she has a special ability that … well … MoonBound needed her (no spoilers, sorry), the problem is that she was kidnapped by vampire hunters and sold to Daedalus. Now, the clans will go to war if she is not returned to ShadowSpawn. Riker is one of MoonBound’s warriors following Hunter’s leadership, and he has the task of rescuing Neriya. How?? Well, the guy had a great idea: kidnap the new CEO Nicole Martin, exchange her for Neriya and a little revenge, as a bonus, against the last Martin alive, the member of the family that killed his Mate.

See … Riker thinks the Martins killer his mate, and Nicole thinks Riker is the one who killed her … so … What the hell happened???

The relationship between Riker and Nicole wasn’t wasy, and they had to overcome years of prejudice, lies, and ghosts from the past. But they were good together, and I liked that Nicole was NEVER a doormat.

The book was fast paced, dark, with humor, action, betrayal, witty dialog and the usual sexual tension and hotness in all Larissa Ione’s books. Ohh and the plot wasn’t that predictable, some things you see coming, others will surprise you!!!!

The secondary characters are the best, I’m already in love with Hunter (He reminds me of Acheron) and Myne.

Hunter was sprawled on his fat leather couch, video-game controller in hand, cursing at the purple dragon flying around the TV screen. Strangely, even though he was immersed in a cartoon game, the vibrant aura of power and leadership that always surrounded him wasn’t diminished in the least.
“Spyro is flying like he’s drunk,” he muttered. “What the fuck, dude. Through the rings, not over them.”
She eyed the screen. “Is that a childen’s game?”
“It’s rated ALL AGES,” he said defensively. “Why are you here?”

Hunter’s going to kill you,” Myne said as he fell in next to Riker.
“He’s not going to kill me.”
“But he’ll lecture you with Hunterisms. ‘A dead buffalo can’t cross the plains,’ or some shit. You might as well be dead.”

Ohh and Bastian, I have the feeling he will have is own book someday, I loved him!!!!

Hotness Factor:

Veredict:

The vampire lore proposed in the series sounds intriguing from the beginning, first you have all the research done surrounding vampires (the boric acid used as a weapon for example) and then all the vampire legends mixing native-american heritage and demons that makes you want to learn more about this world.

Larissa Ione has created a world rich in mysticism with a hint of science for a nice balance.

I’m looking forward for the next book, I have my suspicions it will be Hunter’s … yei!!!!!
