The Selection (The Selection #1) by Kiera Cass

The Blurb …

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself- and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

My thoughts …

*** The book was not my fav, if you are a super fan of The Selection  feel free to ignore my review. So … NO OFFENSE to the author or the fans. ***

What the hell did I read????

I thought that after Paranormalcy, Marked and Indebted my eye rolling capacity had reached its limit … was I ever wrong!!!

Arghh not enough!!!

Where do I start???

The worldbuilding was awful!!! The people is supposed to be struggling to survive, they don’t have food bla bla bla … and America has her own room, she has a phone at home, a TV and she showers daily ….. WTF!!!??? But they are poor … so poor. And apparently no one knows about birth control … guys if you don’t have enough food why?? Why would you have 5 children??? STOP DOING IT!! Watch more TV, sing, dance, go chase a cat down the street, whatever … sorry but hunger beats hormones in my humble opinion.

The rebels …. those are the most dangerous amazing rebels that exist in the world!!! No … scratch that, the universe!!!! The rebels are SUPER INTELLIGENT and clever that always breach the security of the Royal Family Castle (or was it a mansion?? whatever) and dismantle the whole alarm system so that it can never, ever be restored!!!! Really, if the rebels are capable of such special operations to infiltrate the castle let me say

Wait … were the rebels intelligent or the royal family STUPID!!??? Did the royal family changed their headquarters? Increased the security? Restored the damn alarm system? Captured any rebel to find out what their intentions??? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! They were “Ohhh we are so tired of the rebels, I just hope they stop coming to the castle and attack us!!!” And Maxon … don’t even get me started on Maxon with his ideas of “Let’s make a program to feed the lower castes using money from donations instead of assign a budget or doing something that really help the people long-term like better job opportunities or education”…

The Selection …. 34 … wait no … 27?? Ahh who cares … a bunch of girls compete for the money love of prince Maxon and they are such good girls, except Celeste (the typical gorgeous bitch) ….. you know what!!??

I was in a female school (women school? 100% girls school??? you get the idea, only girls school) until high-school … with nuns!!! And believe me, I know about an environment of 30 girls competing for something … it’s like …

And if you add a boy to the mix …

If you haven’t seen that movie … it’s pretty funny, watch it!!!!

Where was the drama???!! The bitchiness!!??? The evil plans to give diarrhea to the other girl the same day she has a date with Maxon!!?? That’s what I wanted to see in the book!!! I swear watching The Bachelor is way more entertaining. Celeste ripping America’s dress sleeve … that was a beginners move!! Come on!! We all watched the evil stepsisters ripping Cinderella’s dress before the dance!! Give me something new!!!!

And America Singer … the name … that was …. ok …. I shouldn’t complain about the name ’cause I’m a BDB fan and they have pretty ridiculous names too (Wrath, Zsadist, Rhage, Thorment …) but … *sigh*

America is so pretty, so special, so unique …. because she doesn’t wear make up and kept her hair simple and … she is being herself!!! She’s not trying to be someone else just to marry the prince and get the money to save her family from poverty!!!!

So … if the rebels break in the castle and kill them all ….

Anyway, I hate to recognize the book was still entertaining, hence the 2 star rating.

And I didn’t mention Aspen before because …. MEH!!

My Rating…
