Here comes August, and the books we’ve been waiting for months and even years!!!
“Sydney … I shouldn’t have said that shit in the car. You’re perfect…”
“Just the way I am?” I finished for him. “Isn’t that from Bridget Jones?”
“Maybe.” One side of his mouth tipped up.
“You are such a vagina.”
For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn’t anything new. They’d been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the ‘man’ in man-whore. He’s never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn’t want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.
Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she’s perfect and she’s everything. But the feelings he has for her, he’s always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.
But when they’re stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor’easter, there’s nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.
Kyler Quinn: Promiscuous man-whore hottie with an 8-pack. Syd’s protective best friend. He plays guitar and he’s studying finances to take over her mom’s business, but what he really wants is to be a veterinarian.
Sydney Young: Timid girl, she’s beautiful but doesn’t know it. She’s been in hopelessly love with Kyler for years. She’s studying psychology.
Kyler and Syd are best friends since childhood. As they grew, their feelings for each other changed, but for fear of ruining their friendship never said anything. Syd had a boyfriend who took her virginity, but after that, he broke up with her and spread rumors at school about her being frigid, making her feel insecure with herself. Kyler never felt worthy of Syd, so he tried to forget her by sleeping with any girl.
Syd, Kyler and friends plan the annual trip to Kyler’s mom cabin in the mountains. Sadly for their friends, but lucky for Kyler and Syd, a snowstorm blocks the roads leaving Kyler and Syd alone in the cabin for a couple of days. That’s the perfect opportunity to explore their feelings for each other, but someone is messing with them, sabotaging the cabin cutting electricity, breaking windows, etc.
I’m a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout, I love her Lux and Covenant series (YA), even the Gamble Brother series (Adult). But her New Adult books … those are not that good… and Frigid was a big meh! Please Jen! Stick with YA!!!!
Syd was a painful character to read, she was so frustrating, overthinking everything, doubting herself and being super paranoid about Kyler and every single thing he did.
His lips brushed the side of my face. “I remembered, but I’m so used to wearing a condom. Kind of hard habit to break.” He leaned back, clearing his throat. “Not that I’m trying to break the habit or anything.”
My lips parted, but my mouth was suddenly dry. What had he meant by that? Was he not planning to break the habit because he was still planning on sleeping around? I closed my eyes, mentally stringing together a redneck’s vocabulary of cuss words. He didn’t mean anything by that other than he wasn’t making a habit f not wearing a condom. That was all.
… Aha ……… paranoid much???? I swear the book was painful to read!!!
Fuck you like a one-night stand.
That’s not what I wanted, but I would’ve accepter that. I wasn’t sure what that said about me – that I could love someone so much I’d accept whatever scrap they tossed my way. It wasn’t right. It was the epitome of weak. I knew that, but it didn’t change the fact that, if Kyler climbed into the shower right now, I’d let him do whatever he wanted. My chest hurt in a way I was slowly growing accustomed to.
Dear Syd, if you don’t want him to treat you like a one-night stand, don’t offer yourself like one. But of course Kyler didn’t treat her like that, noooo, he was a gentleman, ‘cause he loves her.
I wanted to be wooed by Kyler, but he was just the typical good looking guy sleeping around until the “right one” arrives, in this case, Syd. Not charming enough, not for me.
Ahh and the evil guy … that was lame … LAME!!! Seriously … don’t even get me started with the mystery of the plot … there was no mystery!!!!!
Hotness factor: Some scenes were hot and sexy… yep … mature content.
Unpredictable factor: Crystal-ball predictable. ZERO surprises.
Verdict: The book was not enough. I want quality, not quantity. Publishing an amazing book a year is ok, I won’t complain, but publishing 3 or more books a year, with typos and “ok” stories … why????
Rating: 2 stars …
So … the “mystery” took one star from the rating, Sydney took another star, and Kyler not being swoon-worthy enough took the other star, leaving 2.
“I had cheated death up until this point because this was how I was meant to die: a glorious delicious death by chocolate. And I was ready.”
Forever is worth the fight.
Maryah erased all memory of her past lives, but she couldn’t erase her soul mate Nathan, or his undying love. Now, Maryah and Nathan have a second chance at a future together, but first Maryah must remember the person she used to be and embrace her supernatural gifts—more than one kindrily member’s life depends on it.
Maryah’s power is Harmony’s best hope of finding her kidnapped soul mate, Gregory. But Harmony isn’t big on asking anyone for help, and she’s tired of waiting, so she’s taking matters into her own hands. Heaven help anyone who stands in her way.
*Recommended for ages 15 and older due to mature content.*
I’m going to stick to the same format of Grasping at Eternity, I’m only going to mention the POVs.
Maryah/Mary: she has a lot of growth in this book, she’s not the same scared and insecure girl, she’s stronger, more confident and willing to explore her power.
Harmony: she’s angry, frustrated and bitter with justifiable reason, but she also has a soft and sweet side. She’s a really badass and doesn’t take BS from anyone.
Btw I missed Nathaniel POV! 😥
Now that Maryah remembers a little she’s determined to remember everything and recover all her power, in part because shefeels guilty of her past decisions thinking everything is her fault and needs to fix it to redeem herself.
Meanwhile Harmony struggles with the absence of her soulmate, Gregory, and is determined to find him.
I don’t want to say more because I’ll just spoil the book and is such a wonderful story with beautiful writing, you just have to read it and be amazed with the descriptions, characters and relationships.
Hotness factor: This book it’s hotter than the last one, but not the explicit or graphic kind, it masters the art of seduction, like Nathaniel explains to Maryah:
“Delaying gratification is one of the most rewarding human pleasures. In almost all cases, the anticipation of an enjoyable experience is as pleasurable as the experience itself.”
And to tell you the truth that was something that I enjoyed. The trend for most books is to have couples with instant love and usually the guy’s an alpha male and everything revolves around sex. Is refreshing how Nathaniel wants to take his time with Maryah and woo her before they take things to the next level , it’s romantic and thoughtful. Also is cute and funny how Maryah just can’t wait and Nathaniel constantly has to say something like
“Remember, the anticipation and build-up is usually the best part.”
So Maryah you better be prepared to be swoon and seduced!
Unpredictable factor: Like in the first book, I wasn’t really surprised because I guessed the bad guys and traps, but I still don’t know why Maryah erased and I want to know what happened in those months after Maryah was captured and before she died (I even made crazy theories and for a moment I thought some of those were going to happen… but I was wrong or maybe not… I’ll have to wait for the next book to find out).
Verdict: The book was great, I love it! At first I was a little worried since it wasn’t Maryah and Nathaniel POVs and I love them both, but Harmony POV surprised me, I have to confess that in the first book I didn’t liked Harmony but with her POV I could understand her, I still don’t like her a lot but I like her a little more than in the first book.
At the end of the book there are a couple of chapters that happen between book 2 and 3, if you don’t like cliffhangers don’t read them. I don’t like cliffhangers but I couldn’t help myself and I read them, and even though I suspected something like that, now I can’t wait for the next book, I need it now!!!
I hope the next book has Maryah and Nathaniel POVs and maybe another character like Dakota (I want to know if he remembers!!!)
